Incarceration VS. Treatment

We are still criminalizing addiction by imprisoning individuals’, with no prior offenses, for a small possession conviction – usually this possession is for personal use. If we want to imprison individuals for drug use and possession let’s mandate them to treatment incarceration. Why not create prisons just for addiction. Prisons that have a full addiction program and qualified staff to provide treatment. This would truly be the definition of forced treatment. However it would be better than being housed with murderers, and the like. Not to mention the therapeutic value of being given genuine treatment for the addiction problem.

If we are going to incarcerate and our tax dollars are going to pay for an addicts incarceration then let’s create a form of incarceration that will make a difference!
